Bold Wine Co Grenache 2018Ripe fruit and white pepper
This 2018 Grenache is sourced from the old Linden Ridge vineyard in Lodi, California. Lodi is where a lot of awesome old-vine Zinfandel, Cinsault, and Grenache is sourced from. Some Lodi vines are 80-100 years old or more. These old vines create wines of incredible texture and depth. Many winemakers use this type of vineyard to create over-the-top, syrupy wines with high alcohol levels and extra gobs of resinous oak. Wines that taste like Bourbon (wine shouldn't taste like Bourbon) or smell like riding in the back of a 90s Cadillac with second-hand smoke permeating the leather seats.
Not so with this Bold Wine Co. Grenache. The key to making great Grenache is harnessing power, not letting it run wild. Grenache is a late-ripening grape, so the possibility of overdoing it always lurks. This 2018 Linden Ridge Grenache has luscious yet restrained red fruit, hints of crushed violets and pink peppercorns, and a light hint of smoke. It's silky and weighty on the palate, but finishes with a refreshing snap of acidity. This Grenache has delicate aromatics, beautiful texture, and a long finish. It would be a perfect pairing with grilled or roasted chicken, steak salad, fried Brussels sprouts, or a pastrami sandwich. Or just drinking on its own, as we like to do after the kids are in bed and the dishes are done.
