Margins Pinot Noir 2019A cheerful stunner

This 2019 Margins Pinot Noir comes solely from the Majkavich Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It's a tiny vineyard owned by Larry Majkavich, who winemaker Megan Bell has been working with since her inaugural vintage. It's been organically farmed since its planting–this was a prerequisite for Megan to farm, and now she and Larry co-farm it together.

According to Megan, there's notes of "evergreen" and "brambly fruit," to which I would add bing cherry, sweet vermouth, wet stones and sagebrush. A touch of hazy, green smoke lingers on the finish. "Give it a good ol' decant and enjoy," says Megan. I couldn't agree more.
