Lionel Faury Syrah 2020

Lionel Faury is a producer based in the northern Rhône, and his specialty is most certainly the Syrah grape. Their main focus is producing red wines in St-Joseph and Côte Rotie, which makes this Syrah a great deal for the quality of the domaine and the fruit they farm. This cuvée is 100% Syrah, and sees 20% of the grapes vinified whole cluster. It's aged in large, used-oak foudres, which contribute no oak flavor but help to add texture and body as the wine ages.
Have you had a pure, electric Syrah lately? Do you need something to keep on hand for delicious weeknight dinner wine? This goes great with hangar steak, roast chicken, pork loin, and would also be killer wine with smoked sausages or barbecue ribs. If you're more inclined towards veggies, this is great with roasted or smoked carrots, lentil dishes, and any kind of north African or Lebanese cuisine with sumac or ras-el-hanout. I can think of about six Yotam Ottolenghi dishes this wine would be good with, like his Chicken Shawarma with Toum, or his Celeriac Shawarma. Or even just go to a Shawarma place after foiling an alien invasion like Ironman and Captain America!
This wine has notes of black peppercorn and blackberry and smoked cardamom. It's fresh and lively, but also hits with great body and texture on the finish. I'm a fan, and so are a lot of great tasters (if you noticed the quotes above). Come and get some, we have a stack in the warehouse and now there's no more available in the state.
