Martin Woods Havlin Chardonnay 2019
to make clean, pure Chardonnay like this in Willamette Valley is not easy. For a long time, a lot of the Chardonnay clones planted in Oregon were old material that didn't fit the climate or the temperature of the valley, and came off too fruity or one-note, without much complexity or minerality. These are Dijon clones, vine material sourced originally from Burgundy. These Chardonnay cuttings do incredibly well in the cool climate of the Van Duzer Corridor in southern Willamette Valley. This wine is lithe and silky in texture, finishing with bright citrus, wet stone and green apple.
notes from winemaker Evan Martin: "flinty, mineral, saline-saltiness—floral, spice, citrus & apple—palate is fresh, focused, tense & angular but very harmonious balance—youthful—tremendous food pairing potential"
