Monteraponi Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello 2016Sangiovese daddy
Exemplary, legendary Sangiovese from one of the first organic estates in Tuscany. This cuvée, il Campitello, is from the oldest vineyards on the Monteraponi property, at more than 40 years of age. This wine is fermented in concrete tanks, then spends 26 months aging in large, neutral oak barrels. It's lush, red-fruited, and ripe, but carries a classic rustic tartness that just screams Sangiovese. Classic Italian red wine aromas abound: dried fennel, tart cherry, cranberry, arugula, allspice, and oregano. It hints to you that you should be eating food alongside it.
This is a special occasion bottle, especially if the occasion is a nice dinner you cooked yourself. That's all the ingredients you really need to celebrate, in my mind.
