Mortellito Calaniuru Rosso 2021

This was the wine that inspired us to do a volcanic release. I guess you could call it an eruption :-/ It’s so pretty and lifted that I had a hard time believing it was grown in the hot Sicilian mountains. But Frappato has that effect. It’s like southern Italian Pinot Noir–red fruited and earthy.
A touch of Nero d’Avola gives weighty, ripe fruit to the profile here. But the overall effect of this wine is one of elegance and restraint. I love this wine with a slight chill on it, or
With Dario Serrentino at the helm, Mortellito makes pure, chemical-free wines that tell the story of the windswept hills of the Noto region in southwestern Sicily. This Cala Nìuru comes on strong with sour cherry, dried herbs and a strong, persistent smoky volcanic mineral finish. I love this wine with any pizza or lighter, fresher pasta dishes.
